In the summer of 2006, President Andrew Bancroft and Executive Director Devon Lake ran a month-long Summer Extension Program. This program benefitted over 100 students from the GSF and a local orphanage.

Creative Expression Course
Some students studied creative expression, exploring how to write and perform the stories of their lives.

One girl wrote this story.

My story.

I was born December 19, 1989 in Goma.

I had a father, mother, brothers and sisters but today I live only with my mother, brothers and sisters. When I had my father, the morning would come and I would leave for school. When I would return, my mother would make our food and I had the right to basic things.

But today I am an orphan. Yes, truly think of me! I do not have the money to pay for my studies. I am missing my food and clothes.

But now I have been given a scholarship. I study without paying and am given as well the chance to study English and a uniform without paying.

Also, I thank you all of the members of the Goma Student Fund.

Without a doubt, I now plan, for my vocation, to work to help orphans without the means for living and to help them succeed in school and in their lives.

This is what I say to my friends who do not remember the rights of orphans. These orphans, they have the same rights as all other children.

Furaha

English Lessons

Here is Andrew with his class after one engaging lesson.
